House on a Hillside
This coastal house has two faces. The north elevation presents an abstract, flat-rendered surface to the grassy hill beyond. The initial impression of mass dissolves as the fully-glazed south and west open to panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean.
The familiar image of the hip roof on the exterior gives way to a sculpted interior volume. Deep skylights carve the generous ceiling and modulate light as it enters the bedrooms. Faceted ceiling volumes in the expansive main living space, refract light deep into the house.
