Algarve Apartments

The project is an apartment building along a main street one mile east of downtown San Jose. 100% of the 91 units are affordable, with 46 permanently dedicated for supportive housing. The ground floor contains a community room, multipurpose room, food pantry, and offices for on-site resident support staff.

The entire project adheres to a strict grid. Residential floors are populated with three apartment types—studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom. The units are composed using a limited set of repeated interior components. Similarly, the façade is produced by alternating the placement and size of repetitive windows and pilaster elements, which also function as mechanical unit enclosures and vertical shading devices.
