Rio Del Mar Residence

A short walk from the Rio Del Mar Beach in Aptos, this existing mid-century modern house was constructed in 1968. The project will undo past renovations to the residence and seek clarity, order, and oneness that both respects the original design and establishes its own presence.

Energy efficiency is a driving goal of this project, which includes a new insulated roof, insulated window and door replacement, and a new mechanical system with radiant flooring. A natural interior material palette creates a relaxed contemporary environment bespoke to the clients’ interests in collecting art, meditation, and cooking. A complete phased design was established in coordination with the selected general contractor.
